I recently discovered Ana’s work through Port Elizabeth photographer Craig Anderson from a shoot that he did with her. Obviously I got a bit curious having never worked with a model before (on my “bucket list” though) so I decided to get in-touch with the lovely Ana and asked her some questions.
1. How did you get started in the modeling world?
About a year and a half ago I lost a whole lot of weight and got my body in shape after having two kids. Had my first fitness shoot and one thing led to another… got hooked I guess!
2. Can you tell us a bit more about what goes into a shoot from a models perspective?
Apart from keeping your body in constant great condition and making sure you are well-groomed and always professional, once you have discussed the “idea” with the photographer, you need to arrange wardrobe, hair styling, make-up, (depending if you are required to do your own) and also to practice/prepare suitable poses required for the specific idea, as well as a good attitude and a smile! – so quite a bit I guess!
3. What kind of photo shoot do you prefer?
I prefer the kind of shoots where i can work closely with the photographer on an idea and where my input is appreciated and taken into consideration. Luckily most photographers I have worked with, I have had the opportunity to express myself creatively as far as the overall idea is concerned, from make-up to making my own costumes, accessories etc. I love unique and different kind of shoots.
4. What do you look for in the photographers you work with?
Professionalism, a decent portfolio and a good attitude. I like photographers who want to meet and discuss ideas first and who are open to trying new styles and genres and ones I can see are clearly passionate about photography and not just doing a photo shoot with a model.
5. What advice can you give to those wanting to enter the world of modeling?
Be confident in who you are and know clearly what you have to offer. Do it for the right reasons. Know your boundaries before you do a shoot and express them clearly! Always check out a photographer and his reputation before agreeing to a shoot. Know your legal rights as a model. And have fun!
6. What can we expect to see in the future from you?
At this stage this is more of a hobby for me, so definitely some really creative and insanely different shoots I hope!!
